While planning a fun family vacation is exciting and promises some wonderful memories, let’s face it, travelling internationally with kids can be quite stressful, especially with younger children!

But there is no need to get overwhelmed. There are a ton of things you can do and ways to plan your trip to help make the whole process a little less stressful.

Here a just a few quick tips to help take a bit of the stress out of your planning and journey.

1. Do Your Research

Before you leave, be sure to find out all you can about the hotel where you will be staying. Is it on the beachfront or up in the mountains? Does the hotel offer any activities for kids or are there activities nearby? Are there things on the menu that your kids will eat?

Simple things like this can help with planning ahead and having a better idea of what you should be packing to better prepare for your trip.

2. How Will You Get Around?

For Seychelles, we would recommend hiring a car, especially if you have kids. You’ll likely be in for a bit of a struggle asking them to walk or stand around waiting for the bus. At least with your own car you can come and go as you please which makes things a lot easier. Plus, there would be no need to carry around heavy bags on a day out.

That being said, if you do have smaller children, it might be worth considering travelling with your car seat.

3. Don’t Forget the Snacks

This is a must! Be sure to pack some of their favorites that they can enjoy on the flight and at the airport. You can even pack a few extras for the hotel if they are picky eaters.

4. Extra Clothes

It’s always best to have more and not need them rather than have less and not have them when you do need it! Just my opinion. But let’s face it, kids can be messy and the key is to be prepared.

Make sure to pack some extra t-shirts, shorts and skirts as well as another comfortable pair of shoes or sandals. And don’t forget hats!!

5. Activities

Activities are probably one of THE MOST important things to have when travelling with kids. Luckily there are so many different types of activities and many travel-sized.

Magnetic Board Games

A favorite to have on flights, especially if you have more than one child.

Coloring Books, Workbooks and Activities

Kids love these and they provide hours of fun!

6. Comfort Item

When you’re travelling internationally with kids, you want to make sure you don’t forget anything REALLY important – like their favourite blankie or stuffed toy. So please make sure to not leave home without this.

7. Pre-Download

So ipads, tablets and smartphones are a given. As much as we don’t want to rely on them for entertainment, during long flights and waits at the airport, they’re definitely useful to have.

Just be sure to have some games downloaded that don’t require Wi-Fi as well as some pre-downloaded movies.

8. Chargers

It goes without saying to make sure all the above devices are fully charged before departure. But be sure to always have the chargers handy as well as a universal adaptor.

9. Disinfectant Wipes

These are good to have wherever you go. Keep a pack in your bag, in the car, in your kids’ bags, wherever! It’s a definite must have for travelling and super useful.

10. Enjoy the Adventure

Remember, despite the stress that can accompany travelling, it also brings with it adventure, excitement and the opportunity to create lasting memories. So, enjoy the special moments, the new, exciting experiences and have fun with your family.
