Amirantes

The group of islands which make up the Amirantes include Desroches, Rémire, African Banks, D’Arros, St. Joseph, Poive, EtoÎle, Desnoeufs, Boudeuse and Marie Louise.

Desroches

Desroches is the main island of the Amirantes Group and is situated approximately 230km southwest of Mahé. It’s just under 4km² with a 14km coastline almost all of which is beautiful white sand.

Luxury accommodation can be found in the form of the Desroches Island Resort.  Diving, windsurfing and kayaking are popular water activities here.

African Banks

The northernmost of the Amirantes, this uninhabited island is about 10km². It is made up of two islets, North and South, which lie about 2 km apart.  

Rémire

Also known as Eagle Island, Rémire is about 0.27km² and home to a small hotel. Not far away, approximately 3km, is Rémire Reef which is about 10km².

D'Arros

D’Arros has an area of about 1.5km² situated about 45km west of Desroches. It is home to a number of sea birds and along with its neighbouring St. Joseph Atoll, is privately owned.

St. Joseph Atoll

The St. Joseph Atoll is about 1.2km² and situated close to D’Arros. Its lagoon is home to a population of sting rays along with a number of other marine creatures such as giant blue mud crabs, lobster and oysters.

Piovre Atoll

Poivre Atoll is made up of three islands, Poivre Island, Île Du Sud and Florentin and is situated approximately 40km south of D’Arros.

EtoÎle, Boudeuse & Marie-Louise

This is a circular coral cay with almost no vegetation except for some grass and shrubs. It is only 0.05km² and about 32km southwest of the Poivre Atoll.

Like EtoÎle, Boudeuse is uninhabited, an islet of only 0.03km².

Marie-Louise is a low-lying coral island of approximately 0.56km².
